 The First One

On Sunday, 8th January, Phil Barker led the first SRC A-walk on the 2012 programme card. The walk commenced at Chop Gate and finished in Stokesley. We covered a distance of just over 16 miles and this involved a total ascent of approximately 1500 feet.

Our route took us from the Village Hall in Chop Gate to William Beck Farm, Tripsdale, Stump Cross, Badger Crags, Cockayne Head, The Incline (lunch stop), High Farm, West Wood Farm, Beck House, Meynell Hall (tea stop), Great Broughton and Kirby Bridge Farm before finally arriving at Stokesley.

The weather was quite reasonable - being a little warmer than some of us had anticipated. On the whole the conditions underfoot were fairly good. However, in some places the moorland tracks and field paths were a little muddy - but not enough to cause us any discomfort or impede our progress.

There were fifteen people in the group - this must surely be a record? The photo below shows the A-team as it approached the top of the first climb from Chop Gate up onto Black Intake en-route for Tripsdale.

Hi Phil

Love the photos, I was hoping to be out this week-end. But had a bike accident and has put a stop to that, oh well, I will keep trying. Coast to Coast Walk this year, see my blog.

Hello Martin,

Sorry to hear about your bicycle accident. Hope you are OK? What happened? Is your bike damaged at all? Look forward to seeing you soon.

Hi Phil,

Black ice, wheel slip and my face hit the road. I feel fine, just a little shaken, bike is OK. I had plans to get out this Sunday with the club, but I've had to alter dates with YHA.

That's life, I guess?

Hi Martin,

Glad you (and the bike) are OK. It's a horrible feeling when you fly through the air and then land on the road with a thud - I know as I've done it several times. Take care. Look forward to seeing you later in the year.

Warm regards.

Phil
