Sunday Walking to Kirkbymoorside

On Sunday, 6th April, the Stockton Rambling Club will have three walks in the Gillamoor area of the North York Moors. All walks will finish in Kirkbymoorside {SE 697 863} - see the following maps.

The A-walk will start at Newgate Bank {SE 564 888} and will take in Roppa Wood, Ankness and Gillamoor.
 
The B-walk will also commence at Newgate Bank and will visit Carlton Grange, Aumery Park and Gillamoor.
 
The C-walk will set off from Kirk Dale {SE 676 856} and will pass through Aumery Park, Fadmoor and Gillamoor.
 
This is a Route 1 coach pick-up (Billingham: 9.00 am, Stockton: 9.15 am and Acklam: 9.30 am).

A-Walking: Stanhope to Hamsterley via Bollihope

On Sunday, 23rd March, our three walks each took place in the Weardale area of County Durham. The A-Walk and B-Walk both started at Stanhope while the C-Walk set off from Frosterley. All walks finished in Hamsterley.
 
The A-Walk was led by Phil Barker - pictured below. There were six walkers in the group. Our route covered a distance of 16 miles.

From our drop-off point near Shittlehope Burn Farm (Stanhope) our route took in Parson Byers, Bollihope, the B6278 road at NY 991 320, Sharnberry Gill (lunch-stop), Sharnberry Flat, Black Hill, meeting of the Grains, Potato Hill (tea-stop), Low Redford, Bedburn, Howlea Bridge and Hamsterley.
 
We had a very pleasant day - even though there was some hailstones and wind on the high ground!

Early-April Mid-Week Walking (2014-04-02)

During the week beginning 31st March, Stockton Rambling Club will have TWO mid-week walks available. One is an evening walk and the other is a day walk.
 


The evening walk is on Wednesday, 2nd April and will start at 7.00 pm from Yarm Town Hall {NZ 418 128} - see the map below.

The B-walk will commence at Downholme Bridge {SE 114 992} and will visit Clints, Telfit, Helwith, Moresdale Road and Slei Gill.
 
The C-walk will also set off from Downholme Bridge and will pass through Skelton Hall, Marrick Priory, Fremington and Grinton.

The C-walk will set off from Frosterley {NZ 031 369} and will take in the River Wear, Wolsingham Bridge and High Shipley.

A-Walking: Ingleby Cross to Sutton Bank

Our three walks on Sunday, 9th March each took place in the north-western region of the North York Moors. The A-Walk set off from Ingleby Greenhow, the B-Walk commenced at Osmotherley and the C-Walk started at Knayton. All walks finished at the North York Moors Visitor Centre at Sutton Bank
 
The A-walk was led by John Begley (pictured below). There were seven walkers in the group. The distance covered was 15 miles.

From our drop-off point in Ingleby Cross our route took us to Tire Bank, Osmotherley, Thimbleby, Over Silton, Nether Silton and Kepwick - where we stopped for a short lunch break. Following this, we made our way up Gallow Hill to join the Cleveland Way. We then followed this path in a southerly direction to reach Sutton Bank.

A-Walking: Whorlton to Barnard Castle via How Tallon

Despite the somewhat inclement weather conditions, our three walks on Sunday, 2nd March, each took place in the south-eastern region of County Durham. The A-Walk started at Whorlton while the B-Walk and C-Walk each set off from near Gainford. All walks finished in Barnard Castle.
 
The A-Walk was led by Phil Barker - pictured below. There were four walkers in the group. Our route covered a distance of 16 miles.

From our drop-off point in Whorlton our route took in Mortham Tower, Greta Bridge, Wilson House, Barningham, How Tallon, Black Hill Gate, West Hope, Thwaite, Rutherford Bridge, Punder Gill, Thorsgill Bridge and Startforth.
 
We had a very pleasant day - even though there was considerable wind, rain and mud!
